He Knows No Fear Makes Record Win At Leopardstown

    August 14, 2020

He Knows No Fear has set a new record after finishing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at 300-1. By doing so, he becomes the longest-priced winner in Ireland since Killahara Castle finished at 200-1 back in 2017. This is also the horse’s second start after finishing at 12th place in Limerick, last month.

The horse, trained by Luke Comer and ridden by Chris Hayes was able to achieve some lead as the race started, leaving other horses behind until it was overtaken by Agitare. Agitare shot clear past everyone and was at the lead until it began to tire out, which gave He Knows No Fear the chance to soar ahead and finish the race in first place.

With a huge 300-1 odd set for it and its performance at Limerick last month, no one would have expected the horse to win today’s event. Yet, bookmakers report that many people were willing to take a bet on the horse and they hit big. The spokesman for Paddy Powers claimed that such people may have had a divine inspiration for them to have taken a risk like that.

Speaking after the race, Jim Gorman, who is the horse’s assistant trainer said, “He got left half a furlong in Limerick – so we didn’t really know much after it – and because some of our horses weren’t in great form at the time, we backed off them. Going to Limerick we thought he was a real nice horse but he got left so far we couldn’t get any kind of guide to him.

“It was great because it’s one of Luke’s own stallions (Mourayan) and his own mare. That gives him the greatest thrill, to breed his own.” Gorman also mentioned that He Knows No Fear’s win was very refreshing, coming at a time when all the horses they train had been trying at races without taking any win.
