Leipzig held at home by Leverkusen as title ambitions hit a block

    March 2, 2020

Rb Leipzig was held at home as they played out a 1-1 draw with Bayern Leverkusen, at the Red Bull Arena.

The visitors [Leverkusen] drew the first blood as Leon Bailey tapped in at the near post before Patrick Schick equalized for the home side. Leverkusen started on the front foot as they were all over Julian Naggelsman’s men, as they extended their unbeaten run to seven matches. They could have even left the Red Bull arena with all three points.

Leon Bailey’s goal was courtesy of Kai Havertz’s excellent pass. The German international is a target for a host of the premier league and Europe’s biggest clubs, with the likes of Bayern, Liverpool, and Manchester united rumored to be interested in the 20-year old priced at £100million.

Leipzig, on the other hand, will be disappointed that they couldn’t get the three points needed to put the pressure on leaders, Bayern Munich. Though they started on the wrong foot and they weren’t too convincing in their performance. They will need to put up a consistent display required of worthy champions before they can upset the Bavarians on top of the Bundesliga table.

Leverkusen who have been drawn to fave Scottish side Rangers in the Europa league showed no signs of a hangover during the match, and they posed a lot of threat going forward with the likes of Kai Havertz pulling strings in midfield.

Leipzig however, will look to build on their champions league first leg win over Tottenham when they meet for a return fixture in Germany.
