“He also altered the perception some fans had about him” – Claudio Bravo expresses delight over Messi changing narrative at 2022 World Cup

    April 4, 2024

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo recently expressed his delight that Lionel Messi won the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Messi won the Copa America with La Albiceleste in 2021 but apart from that didn’t win the big trophy with the national team.

Messi went to fulfill his dream as he won the World Cup after Argentina defeated France on penalties. La Pulga had a great run in FIFA World Cup 2022, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. He also scored a goal and provided an assist in the all-important semi-final against Croatia. Messi then scored a brace against France in the final and took his team to glory.

Thus, HE played a key role in taking his team to World Cup glory after 1988.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Claudio Bravo said, “I know Messi very well, and he’s not only a fantastic player on the field but also someone who can turn around any tough situation. As a colleague and friend, I was thrilled to see him change the narrative and win titles with his national team. He has also altered the perception that some fans had about him.”

Bravo tipped Messi as the best player in the world and he is hopeful that he continues to play for Argentina.

“For me, Messi is the best player in the world. We know too well the quality of person he is. I’ll take the best player in the world. I hope he continues playing for Argentina many years.”

Messi will lead Argentina in Copa America this year but has confirmed that he won’t take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On playing the next World Cup, Messi recently said on Big Time Podcast, “I think not. This was my last World Cup. I will see how things go, but in principle, no, I will not go to the next World Cup.”

Messi will be 39 in the next World Cup and it will be interesting to note how long he plays for the national team.
