De Rossi’s winning start under threat as Roma face Inter Milan

Having had three wins from his first three games as Roma manager, Danielle De Rossi hopes to continue his hundred percent run against the Serie A leaders.

The former Italia international made it three from three with a convincing 4-0 win against Cagliari.

Rossi, who described his team as a strong one that believes in themselves, could not have asked for a better start to his coaching career at the Stadio Olimpico, securing three wins out of three against Verona, Salernitana, and now Cagliari.

The Giallorossi icon will now head into the clash against Inter on the back of a most convincing victory, a 4-0 result thanks to a Paulo Dybala brace, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Dean Huijsen goals.

The manager lauded the lads for being outstanding from the start and said they produced a great performance, except when they got yellow cards due to a scuffle, which he described as stupid.

De Rossi becomes the second Roma coach to win his first three games when taking over mid-season after Herbert Burgess achieved the same in 1929.

The Gialorossi are now fifth on the Serie A table with just a point behind fourth-placed Atalanta. However, La Dea have a game in hand to be played against Inter on February 28.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the win over Cagliari, he noted that the match against the Nerazurri will be considerably more difficult.

This was a fixture where Jose Mourinho focused only on defending earlier this season. Still, De Rossi, who dismissed the comparison, said his staff have already been working on studying Inter and did well to leave him, and the players focused on the Cagliari game.

“The players deserve a coach who, like them, is 100 percent focused on the next match.

“Just that we need to get out of negative situations together, without passing the buck, without seeking the easy way out, just with hard work. I talked to them like the former player and the little old man of the squad that I was. I always had negative moments, and the only way we got out of them was together,” he said.

“I also told these players that they are good, genuinely very talented, and they have to believe in themselves more. This is a strong team.”

The onus now lies on De Rossi to get a result against a team that has been impressive in the league, on the summit of the league table and leading them with 19 points.
