Brentford’s Toney reveals desire to play for top clubs

Just barely a week after England striker Ivan Toney expressed his gratitude to Brentford for being behind him during his ban because of his betting scand and admitting that he has a lot to repay, the striker has contradicted himself by stating that they would love to play for a big Club anytime soon.

The striker scored 20 goals and made four assists for Brentford and 33 games last season in the Premier League but has not featured in the 2023/2024 season after he was given an eight-month ban for betting scandals.

The striker completed his ban from football on Wednesday and could play for Brentford in the Premier League this weekend against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, during his ban, Toney was not without suitors. London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea were repeatedly linked to him, and there were talks about a possible January move. Toney isn’t ruling anything out yet.

“You can never predict when the right time to move elsewhere is, but I think it’s obvious I want to play for a top club. Everybody wants to play for a top club that is fighting for titles. Whether it’s this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows? But my main focus is to do what I do on the pitch and let the background work take care of itself.” Toney said.

Brentford were knocked out of the FA Cup 3-2 by Wolves yesterday after extra time with a Matheus Cuhna penalty in the first half of extra time sealing the win for Wolves after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

The Bees will be delighted to have Toney back and into the groove as they currently sit in sixteenth position with nineteen points from nineteen games. Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest will happen at Gtech Stadium.
