Asensio set to stay at PSG as Ekitite prepares for loan move

    February 2, 2024

Media reports from France have shown that Marco Asensio will remain at Paris Saint-Germain beyond Thursday’s transfer deadline despite reported interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Asensio, who joined PSG on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer, has not played a major role for the Ligue 1 giant as his season at the Parc des Princes has been disrupted by injuries.

He made his return from a foot injury, which had sidelined him for almost three months, at the start of December. This has made him fit in and out of the squad.

Asensio, who scored for the Paris club against Stade Brestois last weekend, has already scored four goals this season.

However, Sky Germany reported that Asensio’s time with Les Parisiens could end soon as the publication reported that Bayer Leverkusen had held talks over a move but added that a transfer could be difficult.

However, top journalist Romano Fabrozio said Asensio will not be leaving PSG this month.

The Spaniard is still contracted to Les Parisiens until 2026. He will, therefore, complete the season at the Parc des Princes.

In a related development, PSG and Eintracht Frankfurt remain confident of finding an agreement over Hugo Ekitiké.

French media reported that Ekitiké may sign for the Bundesliga club on loan, having failed to nail down a regular shirt with the club.

Although both parties are yet to reach an agreement, Frankfurt have already agreed personal terms with Hugo Ekitiké over a potential contract should the loan move be made permanent.

L’Équipe, however, reported that the two clubs are still a part in their evaluation of the future fee that Ekitiké would command.

PSG wants €30m for the former Reims striker, while Frankfurt has proposed a potential future fee of €20m for the France U21 international.

L’Équipe further reported that Les Parisiens have sent a counter-proposal to the Bundesliga club, which is valued at €30m but would see the deal be achieved in bonuses, but Frankfurt is yet to respond to this counter-proposal.
