Jake Paul to force rematch with Fury

    March 2, 2023

Jake Paul has announced he will exercise his rematch clause to face Tommy Fury again after losing a split decision to the British boxer in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

It was the first defeat in the YouTube star-turned professional boxer’s career. Although he had previously defeated mixed martial artists, this was the first time he had faced an unbeaten boxing prospect.

Throughout the eight-round bout, Fury appeared to have the upper hand, with better variety in his punches, greater footwork, and movement. He also managed to get his jabs off first, leaving Paul exposed at times and vulnerable to counterattacks.

However, Paul did manage to land some punches, and Fury acknowledged his opponent’s resilience, stating: “Jake Paul took some good shots – he’s a far better boxer than I thought he was.”

It was in the final round that Paul made a significant breakthrough, dropping Fury to the canvas with a left hook. Despite the loss, Paul was optimistic and determined to take advantage of his rematch clause, insisting: “We can run it back. I think we deserve that rematch.”

He also mentioned issues he faced during his training camp, saying he was “flat” in the fight due to illness and injury, but he acknowledged that it was no excuse for his performance.

Fury, meanwhile, welcomed the prospect of a rematch, stating: “If he wants a rematch, bring it on.”

Paul, who has developed a reputation as a “Problem Child” in the sport, is unlikely to be deterred by the loss. “This is definitely a humbling experience,” he said, “but I’ve made it further than I ever thought that I would and beyond.” He remains committed to his boxing career and is eager to continue pursuing it.

The rematch between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury is likely to generate significant interest and anticipation from boxing fans worldwide. Although Fury won the first bout, Paul has shown resilience and determination throughout his career and is likely to come back stronger. The YouTube star turned boxer has made it clear that he intends to make a name for himself in the sport, and a victory over Fury would be a significant step in achieving that goal.
