“We just want to get four wins,” Gabe Vincent clarifies the common goal for the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals

    June 5, 2023

The Miami Heat turned it around after a bad loss in Game 1 of the finals, they have resurrected them with a superb Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets were unbeaten at the Ball Arena in this postseason but the Heat had other plans on the night as they won 111-108 to level the Final series.

Point guard Gabe Vincent was the star of the show for the Heat as he dropped a team-high of 23 points on the night. He also had three assists and two steals to accompany his points to show that he is contributing to all departments. It was courtesy of his brilliance that the Heat turned down a deficit of 15 points to ultimately win the game.

Vincent was present at the NBA TV post-match interview with Shaquille O’Neal. Vincent did not mince his words and was pretty open about things that Shaq asked him. Starting with the trend of Nuggets being the favourites which has been declared by the media personnel and also by the fans. But Vincent feels that the Heat are unbothered by the outside noise and are focused on getting four wins.

“I speak for my whole team when I say we don’t give a damn,” Vincent said. “We just want to get four wins. We don’t give a damn about none of the other stuff.”

During the interaction, Vincent was asked about Heat’s ability to turn things around after tough losses. They had a very poor Game 6 outing against the Boston Celtics but they shrugged it off and came out all guns blazing in Game 7 to reach the finals. Similarly here also they struggled in Game 1 of the finals against the Nuggets but they have turned it around that too in Denver.

Vincent shared that the team knew that if they play well in Game 7 against the Celtics hardly people will remember the previous game and the errors made by the team. “Well, speaking back to Game 6, it didn’t matter if we won Game 7,” Vincent said.

He remains grounded as he believes that the team has only shown signs of positive things but have not achieved anything yet. He shared that his team will be happy when they win the title. He also highlighted how they did not win the last final that they played so they are desperate to make this one count.

“Speaking about now, we haven’t done anything yet,” Vincent said. “It’s first to four. We haven’t done anything. This may be our second trip here in the last four years, but we didn’t win last time. So, we’ve got nothing to be all jolly about. We’ve got four wins to get.”

Nikola Jokic again had a monstrous game with 41 points, 11 boards and four assists. Jamal Murray finished with 18 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Overall they need more players to step up and contribute in all departments. Jimmy Butler also had a decent outing with 21 points, nine assists and four boards.
